The Hall FamilyWritten by Bob Hall, Owner:
I grew up on Highway 161, just a mile down the road from the farm. My passion for the land and farming began at an early age. I spent much of my childhood helping my dad survey land and helping my grandfather in his peach orchard. Dan Hall, my uncle, was a great mentor for me, and I grew up helping him on his farm as well. I also helped my great uncle, Quay Whitesides, in the summer from time to time. He ran a truck farm with peaches and tomatoes. In 1976, the year I graduated from high school, two sisters named Elizabeth Hall and Mary Campbell Hall, retired from teaching school and lived together in the John Quilla Hall home--the white house on Bush-N-Vine Farm. Meanwhile, I went to Clemson University. I studied Horticulture and graduated in 1980. I had a love and desire to grow crops and wanted to get into direct marketing of fresh fruits and vegetables. Elizabeth and Mary Campbell Hall were gracious and wanted to see their father's farm stay in agriculture, so they allowed me to begin farming the land. We opened the Bush-N-Vine in 1980, converting the old peach packing shed from the 1930s into our retail market stand. Over the years, it has served us well and we have made many memories and friends in that unique building. In 1982, Susan Templeton and I were married. We were blessed to raise five children on the farm. |

I grew up helping my dad on the farm and fell in love with it. I knew I wanted to be a farmer at a very early age. I guess you could say it's in my blood! After high school, I went to Clemson and majored in Agriculture Economics. I graduated in 2010 and began working full time with my dad. We've grown the farm a lot in the past decade. We've started the CSA program, opened our new building, and diversified our crops. Farming isn't easy, but it's what I'm passionate about and I can't imagine doing anything else.
I married Lindsey in June of 2010, and we live on the farm with our three children. I'm slowly but surely turning Lindsey into a country girl, and it is a lot of fun watching our little ones grow up here. We have a lot to be thankful for, and I don't take any of it for granted!
